NWRTEC 2018 Competitions:

Deadline for Application:

The deadline for NWRTEC 2018 competition applications HAS BEEN EXTENDED to March 15th, 2018.

Eligibility:

The Northwest Regional Tuba-Euphonium Conference Competitions are open to all interested contestants who are members of ITEA. All applicants must be registered and present at the NWRTEC 2018 to be held April 13-15, 2018 in Ellensburg, Washington. Competitions will be held on Friday, April 13th.

Competition Information:

Competitions will consist of a single round, with no prescreening or preliminary round. Solo competitors will be provided a conference pianist and 20 minutes of rehearsal time; HOWEVER, competitors may choose to use their own pianist if they prefer. Competition registration is completed when registering for the conference itself (see deadline above). The entry fee for solo competitions is $25; the entry fee for the chamber music competition is $40.

Artist Solo Tuba:

Eligibility -  Competitors must not be a full-time paid professional (euphonium, tuba, or trombone) in either a performance or university teaching position.  There is no age limitation.

Repertoire - Sonatina for Tuba and Piano, Op. 57 - Jan Koetsier (All Movements, Editions Marc Reift)

Artist Solo Euphonium:

Eligibility - Competitors must not be a full-time paid professional (euphonium, tuba, or trombone) in either a performance or university teaching position.  There is no age limitation.

Repertoire - Sonata for Euphonium and Piano, "Child's Play" - Barbara York (Movements 2-3, Cimarron Music Press)

Young Artist Solo Tuba:

Eligibility - Competitors must not be a full-time paid professional in either a performance or university teaching position. Competitors must not have reached their 21st birthday as of April 13th, 2018.

Repertoire - Concerto for Double Bass, Mvt III. Rondo - Antonio Capuzzi (Arr. Catelinet, C.F. Peters)

                      Note: Take BOTTOM divisi throughout

Young Artist Solo Euphonium: 

Eligibility - Competitors must not be a full-time paid professional in either a performance or university teaching position. Competitors must not have reached their 21st birthday as of April 13th, 2018.

Repertoire - Andante and Allegro, Guy Ropartz (Arr. Shapiro, Carl Fischer)

​

Chamber Music:

Eligibility - Competitors must not be a full-time paid professional (euphonium, tuba, or trombone) in either a performance or university teaching position.  There is no age limitation.  Each ensemble must consist of 4-6 members playing any combination of tubas and/or euphoniums, and all members of the ensemble must perform on every piece during the competition.

Repertoire - Repertoire is to be chosen by the competitors within the guidelines listed below.

  • Aspire to demonstrate contrasting musical style periods and tempi when selecting repertoire.

  • Ensembles will be judged on the quality of ensemble performance; therefore, it is in each group's interest to select music that will best display group musicianship.

  • Competitors will have 20 minute time slots and should prepare 16-18 minutes of music.

  • Competitors must perform at least one transcription (complete or partial).

  • Competitors music perform at least one original work (complete or partial) for the instrumentation of the group.
